Collect tens of billions of dong from litchi soon

Bat Trang commune, An Lao district (Hai Phong) has more than 1,000 households growing litchi with an area of 100 hectares, the most growing household is about 490 trees, growing at least 100 trees, annually giving 700-800 tons of litchi, total revenue is more. 20 billion. In which, early litchi varieties such as egg thorns, eggs, persimmon, tugboats ... account for more than half of the area and output.

Putting down the bunch of red berry litchi to invite guests, Ms. Doan Thi Van, hamlet 4, village Quan Trang said: My family has more than 100 early litchi trees, the amount of fruit this year is almost twice wrong as last year, expected to collect about 5 tons. Last year, the result was less, but minus the expenses, her family earned more than 200 million. This year there was the Covid-19 epidemic, Chinese traders have not seen the luxury but the price of lychee at the beginning of the season is still high, many traders have paid more than 35,000 VND / kg.

"The cost of my house is all recorded in the book, all 10 million dong, generally not worth much, this year if the price is the same as last year, it will also be 200-300 million dong" - Ms. Van excitedly shared.

Besides Ms. Van's family garden, Mr. Phan Van Hieu's family is also harvesting litchi. Mr. Hieu's litchi garden is converted from inefficient one-crop rice fields. Taking the reporter to see the lychee garden, Mr. Hieu said: “The land here is all borrowed land. Last year, minus expenses, my family received more than 100 million. Besides growing litchi, I also intercrop other fruit trees such as lemons, apples, bananas ... almost year-round income. Compared with previous rice cultivation, the transformation as now can be said to be successful ”- Mr. Hieu said.

Taking the PV to visit the lychee garden being harvested, Mr. Bui Duc Dien, the head of Quan Trang village pointed out: Litchi started to harvest from April (calendar) and the price was very high. The soil here is similar to that in Thanh Ha (Hai Duong), only one river apart, even though this is outside the dyke, the soil is better, the soil is very suitable for litchi trees, giving big and sweet fruits.

"In the past, it was a one-crop rice-growing area, very precarious, sometimes inundated where it was not possible to eat. At that time, the state tax for 7th-grade land was 9 taels / acre, but it was still lacking and hungry all year round. 20 years ago, due to the crop conversion mechanism, the rice land was converted to the crop land, the people switched to litchi and some other crops, life was less difficult. have earned billions of billions of dollars and get rich from litchi trees ”- Mr. Dien shared.

Looking at the vast canvas gardens along the river Quan Trang village, few people think that more than 20 years ago, this place was the sugarcane fields, the fields were fragmented, the year was lost. The people's farming depends entirely on nature and hunger all year round.

This year's Bat Trang fabric has good season. According to the People's Committee of Bat Trang commune, the whole commune is expected to collect about 800 tons of litchi, of which 600 tons of litchi soon. Although there are no official statistics, but people have harvested a part of litchi early, some households can sell the price above 40,000 VND / kg, the price tends to decrease due to the impact of the disease, Chinese traders have not come to buy the Consumption is still happening normally, when it is ripe, it is sold out.

Don't just plant litchi

According to local people, the litchi variety in Bat Trang belongs to the Thanh Ha strain, which has been around for 40-50 years. Previously, litchi was only grown in gardens, starting in 2000, when sugarcane or single-crop rice fields had low productivity, people switched to growing litchi and longan for high economic efficiency, especially early litchi.

This is a crop that used to help people in the commune eradicate poverty. Thanks to thieu litchi, many families in the commune have an income of hundreds of millions VND per season. However, up to now, nearly half of the main crop area has been converted to grow other agricultural products with high economic value and more stable output such as dragon fruit, apple, lemon ...

Mr. Phan Viet Huy - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bat Trang commune said: The land of Bat Trang is the place where litchi can be grown, other places are not good or sour litchi. This is the watershed of Lach Tray river, Da Do, so the water is clean ... In the past, litchi was the main source of income, many people got rich from litchi, however, the area for growing litchi is decreasing due to the lack of land, the price The market is unstable, "if the season is down, the price will lose the season".

“In the area where people grow litchi trees near big rivers, when they have not blocked the river to build hydroelectric dams, every year, there is an alluvial water source, so the fabric is very good and high yield. However, nature's favors are no longer the same as before. Currently, lychee trees no longer occupy a unique position in Bat Trang, apart from litchi, according to the guidance of the authorities, people have partly changed to growing dragon fruit, alternating planting apples, longan and some fruit trees. other ... to ensure year round revenue ".
